I've
slightly bungled my self-imposed deadline by possibly not being clear enough
about the actual week of release (it's this
week), plus I realised at the last minute that the launch video could really do with a
soundtrack on it… so let's give it another day or two to be safe.In the mean time I've *secretly* updated the
file on Gumroad, so customers don't have to wait… ;)
The showcase video I'm making to coincide with the Base Version update is taking too long, so instead of making everybody wait around for that to materialise, I've decided to cut to the chase and release the goods already. Not right now though, since I said I'd put out a last call before the price goes up. So let's say Tuesday or Wednesday next week (East Australian time), barring any snags.
In case you haven't been paying attention, a new feature is on the way: Customisable Skeletal Proportions!
This feature will represent a significant upgrade in functionality for the Universal Human Base Version that not only allows easy, non-destructive editing of the rig for customising humans, but expands the scope into the realms of humanoid creatures and stylised characters as well. Here's a demo of the hand being tortured with it (see previous posts for full-body examples).
Since this functionality can't easily be split out into an add-on-able component, it will have to be integrated into the feature set of the Base Version. The price will be getting a bit of a bump up to reflect this (I'm thinking in the order of +$15 to $20 or so).
Before that happens though, I have to make a relaunch video as well as update the documentation and all that fun stuff, so if you get onboard before then, you'll get it for the original price and receive the update for free when it's ready (along with the current users).
I'll forewarn again when the time is nigh. Meanwhile, here's that big ugly product page button again to tempt you:
My human project now has a proper name, and I've just released the rigged base mesh (which works in the free, open source Blender) on Gumroad. So if you want to do what I do, now you can do some of what I do too. Woohoo!
As seen on Twitter and BlenderArtists. Maybe I should just let the Twitter feed run here in place of the blog to save repeating myself, since it's doing the same job. Any objections?
I've finally been coaxed against my better judgement onto Twitter, where I'll be attempting to make more incremental updates (along with the ones I've been making here). Hence, I've added a new button, up there on the right. I'm not sure exactly what it does, but it's blue and Twittery-looking, and that's good enough for me.
I'll continue to reserve this blog for more significant updates (such as new buttons).
I'm rebooting my human project in Blender, so I've started a new WIP for anyone interested in seeing how I fumble about with that while relearning how to do 3D at the same time.
For anyone that's still alive to remember or care, I have some news concerning the soundtrack for that head video I made back in 2014, which was attracting a lot of requests for an extended version. Well, I'm afraid to say things didn't quite work out as expected.
No, instead I went well beyond that and made an entire music-visualisation-extended-sountrack-video out of it! It now has its own title (String Theory), and it can be viewed/heard below. The track is available on Bandcamp (in various formats incl. 24 bit lossless), CD Baby, iTunes, Amazon, Spotify and most other places (not Google Play though unfortunately, as that would cause a conflict with the video).
Note: since YouTube seems to have trouble with thin lines and subtle gradients, I scaled the video up to 4K to reduce compression artefacts. So even though its native resolution is 1080p, it looks better at higher resolutions. If you're using Edge or Firefox and can't access 1440p or 2160p, try the following:
Edge: Type about:flags in the address bar and change "Enable VP9 video format" to "Always On"
Firefox: Type about:config in the address bar and find "media.mediasource.webm.enabled". Double-click on it to change it to "True".
