Animation Nation
Two more festivals with The Passenger in them, again at short notice. First up is the ArtCourtVidO festival in Arles, France on what appears to be Friday 16th November 2007, and then Animation Nation in Singapore for what I gather to be two screenings - 11:00am, Sunday 25th of November and 9:00pm, Tuesday 27th of November 2007 (I had to do some sleuthing myself to find out these details, so you might want to double check rather than take my word for it).

Making Of The Passenger - Part 5

Year 5
Maybe I should make a making of the making of after this. I wonder if that would take as long to make as it's taken to make the making of. Anyway, here's part 5.

The Making Of The Passenger - The Saga Continues

Making Of
It looks like Monday has become the day for posting new entries in this series, so to save me having to keep thinking up witty new blog posts each time, you can assume this is going to be a weekly thing and direct yourselves back to the Making-Of pages for updates.

The Making Of The Passenger - Part 1

Making Of - Year 1How does somebody spend years of their life pushing little dots around a screen and playing the same noises repeatedly without losing their marbles? What does it take to get those little dots and noises onto a bigger screen? And why would anyone want to do something like that anyway? Beats me, read this and let me know if you can figure it out.

This is a bit last minute, but La Trobe University's Animation Media Arts Festival will be presenting The Passenger in Bendigo on Saturday 11th of August. Small auditorium - limited seats - get in fast!

Dont expect to see me there though, I've got the flu and am preoccupied with copious amounts of ... ooze.

More Oscar Screenings

I've just noticed there are a few more Oscar Shorts screenings at the Magnolia Pictures site that weren't there before, so if you want to see The Passenger on the big screen you might want to check where you live (ask your neighbours, they'll know), and see if that happens to be in the same place as one of those screenings.

Kratkofil

The Passenger rarely makes film festival outings. Why? Well generally I've found the hassle and expense to outweigh the gain, so therefore I decided to limit its screenings to only those festivals that can take care of the burden for me.

The Kratkofil International Short Film Festival in Bosnia and Herzegovina is one such festival, and consequently they will be screening the film in Banja Luka around the 7th-10th of June. Keep an eye on their site for the screening schedule. In an effort to liven the place up a bit, I'm also going to try inserting pictures into my posts from now on, and thus I present to you the Kratkofil logo/mascot/thing!

Hands up who wants a Passenger DVD

Now don't get excited, I'm not handing them out. I don't even have any made yet - and that's where you come in. If you're interested in buying such a thing, you might like to vote in the little poll thingy on the right so I can get a vague idea of numbers.

The "I can play either" option is supposed to simplify things in the event that I can only afford to make one format. So check that if you can play both PAL and NTSC.

Thanks for participating!

Surprise!

Welcome to the murky greenish grey of WEBSITE MK II. The old one wasn't much fun to maintain and I needed a front end that would allow for expansion into other less "Passengery" things. Consequently it's got more buttony thingamabobs, searchy whatchamacallits, RSS dooverlackies and other high tech ...stuff.

Don't be alarmed though, The Passenger is still high priority and the original pages are still mostly intact and viewable by clicking on the image above. They took me ages to do (believe it or not) and I'm not about to go dragging all my good work into the recycle bin. Besides, I don't know how to do those spooky glowy buttons and things in here.

The site is somewhat empty (again) for now, so consider this a replacement for what was previously known as "Newsy Bloggy Thing" until I've come up with some material to populate its pages.

Interviews

Feel like you're not getting enough reading satisfaction here? Then head on over to Reader's Voice where I yabber on about The Passenger, as well as some books I've read.

Still haven't had enough? Then continue on to Animwatch for more waffling by me. Too blind / uneducated / dyslexic / lazy to read? Then listen to it being read FOR you on the Animwatch podcast (that's not me doing the reading by the way, it's some other bloke).

If you still want more, there are a couple of (rather positive) reviews out there, but they're a tad too spoilerific for me to be endorsing here for now. If you really must deprive yourself of an undefiled viewing experience (assuming I ever figure out how to make it more accessibly viewable...) you'll have to go and hunt them down yourself!

Passenger In Paris

Well I seem to have somewhat inadvertently submitted the film to the "International Panorama" at the Nemo festival in Paris (it's a long story), and lo and behold it's been selected! So now, because of my "mishap", you get to see the film there for FREE! Provided you're in Paris of course. If not, now might be a good time to go and visit.

Now I don't speak a word of French, so I'm not entirely sure where or when it's on, but it appears to be "Lundi 30 avril 20h 45 - 22 h Le Cinéma des cinéastes". That's Monday April 30 20h 45 - 22 H The Cinema of the scenario writers, according to Google Translate. If you speak French better than Google then you should check the details here.

So... apprécier l'exposition, et battre fort ! ...whatever that means.

Where Can I See It?

I am frequently asked where The Passenger can be seen/bought/downloaded. Isn't it enough that I made it, now you want to SEE it as well?? The only way at present, other than to catch it at the Oscar shorts screenings, is to come and watch it in my bedroom. That may be a bit inconvenient for some, so I've come up with a better solution: I'm making another copy for the loungeroom.

In case for some reason you can't make it to my lounge room either, I've been considering one or all of the following options:

1. Paid download

2. Free download with advertising

3. DVD

4. Worldwide theatrical release.

Number 4 is unlikely. 1 and/or 2 are possible, and 3 is probable either way but will take some time to assemble (bonus materials, authoring, distribution...). So when I've sorted out the logistics of all this I'll notify the Queen and she can deliver the message to the world. Or I could just post it here somewhere.

Good News!

I didn't get an Oscar®©TM nomination! But that's not the good news. The news is that in the leadup to the Academy Awards®TM©(Pat.Pend.), and for a short time after, the nominees will be touring around 50 cinemas in the U.S. - and The Passenger is tagging along for the ride!! Check the Magnolia Pictures website for the what, where and when.

Of course for anyone living outside the U.S. this is not very useful information (and probably belongs here), but rest assured I'm working to rectify this situation...

Overhaul

Now that I'm starting to get a handle on this fiddly business of web designing, I've noticed what a diabolical mess I've made of setting up the directory structure. So, I've pulled it all apart and put it back together again.

In the process I've made all the pages a bit more uniform and finished looking, and now you can navigate to any page from any other page (except the front page) - convenient! It's almost enough to create the illustion that there's actually a lot of stuff in here.

Let me know if anything's broken.

Finally finished making a press kit, short and sparse as it is. More can be gleaned from the pages of this website if need be.

The Tomb

It's not Passenger related, but here's a glimpse of what I was up to a month or two ago. It's a "behind the scenes" look at a feature film pitch by Jon Dixon. I did the opening title and establishing shot for the teaser as well as some other minor effects shots.

http://www.makingthetombteaser.com/ (note: link currently unavailable)

I've just finished another job, so with any luck I'll manage to get some Passenger stuff up before the next wave hits.
