Hand WIP

More from my personal person project. This was just supposed to be a rigging test, but then I got carried away and started texturing and things. So now it sits in that uncomfortable place somewhere in-between rough test and final product.

  1. That looks awesome! What was the magic combo to go beyond simple enveloping? Lots of blendshape fixes? How did you do the tendons under the surface?

  2. I really like the look of this. Second a request for how you did the tendons. :)

  5. Heheh, any advance on four requests?

The tendons are effectors, which in Lightwave are nulls that repel/attract mesh. They have a spherical area of influence, so I had to stretch them out and string several together, then rig them to point towards the knuckles.

No blendshapes involved - only bones and effectors.

  8. What was the miracle combination to go beyond easy enveloping They have a rounded place of impact, so I had to expand them out and sequence several together, then rig them to factor towards the knuckles.

    1. Not sure I understand the question... do you mean how am I keeping the knuckles from losing their volume when the fingers bend?

  9. Could you maybe present us a wireframe still, I am studying hands at the moment (so frustratingly hard :<) so could be a great help!

  13. I came to your site due to the last video of the animated head - AWESOME. Then, I saw your hand. Really cool, tool. I would have never thougt to see such impressive animations.

But compared with the really really impressive face (the surrounding of the eyes!): your would be 100% perfect with surrounding, too. You animated the fiber (I hope I translated correct) in the back of the hand. But you did not animate the movement in the wrist (and lower arm). You can normally see them moving from the open side of the hand. That is not a critc - your hand is perfect - just an idea how to get further :-)

I'm very very curious how this project goes further. Amazing!
