Face WIP

After a succession of interruptions I've finally managed to make some more progress on this guy.  As before, it's just a proof of concept, so there's a myriad of temporary, incomplete or just plain missing bits.  I saw fit to add some music this time, for whatever reason.

    1. There's quite a lot to it (some of which is contained in this thread: http://forums.newtek.com/showthread.php?132336-Eyes-and-Wrinkles ). Was there anything in particular?

  3. Wow....
Nice job....I am very curious as to the rigging.

Do you have a sticky lips function in there?

    1. Not really, there's a manually operated morph that roughly takes care of that.

  4. Amazing! Getting better and better! How did you manage to solve the crossing wrinkles problem?
Could you please tell me, is it possible to make similar effect (animated displacement/normal maps) in Maya? If so, could you give some links? Thank you! =)

    1. I masked them off with weight maps and had the active morph dissolve them in and out, along with the right combination of add, multiply and divide nodes. It's not a complete solution though because I can only do this in one area, which ended up being the forehead. In other areas I had to uniformly dissolve them directly using the morph, so they're not being affected by tension at all.

No idea on whether it's do-able in Maya, sorry!

  5. Chris, you made mention of Blender in the Youtube comments for this video, but it's not clear if you ended up using Blender to get this done, although that seems to be implied. Are you going to elaborate on that?

    1. There was a quick pass through Blender for displacement baking, but that's the extent of it. All LW and Sculptris otherwise.

  7. Getting better and better! How did you handle to fix the traversing facial lines problem?Could you please tell me, I can only do this in one place, which finished up being the temple. In other places I had to consistently melt them straight using the transform, so they're not struggling with stress at all.

    1. I could only do it with Tension in one place as well (the forehead). The other places (corners of the mouth) had to be done directly with morphs controlling displacement instead of Tension. The actual nodes are here: http://forums.newtek.com/showthread.php?137719-Human-Progress

  8. I've never seen such great character work coming out of Lightwave. Maybe I'm not up on state of the art in LW, but this is mind boggling.
